Group Schedules
Children/Teen Groups
Kids Domestic Violence Group is geared for children ages 8-12. This group is intended for children who have experienced domestic violence within their homes. A 12-week curriculum including information, activities and discussion topics created to address issues such as defining abuse, safety, familial roles, who’s to blame, healthy relationships, conflict-resolution, self-esteem, feelings-resolution and self care has been developed for this particular group. Contact Holly White at (989) 723-9716 for more information or to register.
The Kids Domestic Violence Group is something RAVE has wanted to incorporate into services for quite some time. Children utilizing support from amongst their peers is a useful tool in coping with living in a violent home. For many, participating in a group such as this is likely to help alleviate the stigma attached with having experienced living in a violent home and transitioning to a single parent household that results from a parent leaving the abuse. Groups also provide a safe haven in which to identify safe, appropriate coping skills for children.
The Teen Girls Survivors of Sexual Assault and/or Abuse Group (for ages 13-18) will be held on Tuesdays from 4:00 – 5:30pm. This groups provide a safe place for survivors of sexual assault and/or abuse to come together with others who understand and receive support. For more information or to reserve a space, please contact Amanda Dubey at (989) 723-9716.
Women’s Groups
RAVE currently offers three women’s groups for domestic violence. Tuesday evenings is our Residential Women’s Group. Wednesday evenings is the second women’s group, intended for community members These groups are open-ended with no cut-off for participants to join. Women are encouraged to attend when they are able. These groups are intended for women who have experienced violence in their relationship(s) and/or homes. The purpose is to help us understand that although everyone’s experience is different, we are not alone. Using support from this group, women will have a safe place to assess relationship(s), make sense of options and be better able to make decisions for themselves.
Group topics are driven by group members. Generally, topics of discussion center on experiences with domestic violence. Groups provide a safe place for women to share their thoughts, feelings, emotions, frustrations, experiences and/or words of wisdom. These groups also provide a safe environment and someone to listen and help group members define strengths, wishes and goals. Also included in the agendas are general educational pieces about domestic violence including defining abuse, how abuse affects the person and children, defining healthy relationships, safety, conflict-resolution and getting comfortable with emotions.
The Adult Women’s Survivors of Sexual Assault and/or Abuse Group will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:00 – 7:30pm. This group provides a safe place for survivors of sexual assault and/or abuse to come together with others who understand and receive support.
